Message from Chairperson of the Exec. Committee

Welcome to Y7Japan.org, the official website of the Y7 Japan 2016, which will be held between April 30th and May 3rd in Tokyo, Japan. This website contains all the information about the summit, how to get involved in Y7 Japan 2016 and the future summits.

Founded in 2006 by International Diplomatic Engagement Association, Y7 is a premier annual youth forum designed to bring together future young leaders from G7 countries to discuss, and adopt a final communiqué about the issues which matter to the young people around the world. The final communiqué will represent the voice of youth in the G7 Leaders' Summit and may be quoted on its final declaration.

This year, Y7 Japan 2016 will be an event backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where we discuss some of the most important issues that divides the world, while putting younger people at greater risk than ever before. The theme "Reflecting Youth's Opnion in a Changing World" means that Y7 is tasked to understand the current dynamics under which our society exists, identify the most vulnerable groups of young people, and protect them from harm. Our aim is to "leave no one behind," which is inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

To this end, Y7 Japan 2016 will take up three key issues that are important for young people in the 21st century:

  1. International Security

  2. Economy and Labour

  3. Sustainable Development

Y7 Japan 2016 will be a very important event for many reasons. For the last two years, Y7 was not held due to Russia's suspesion from the G8 in 2014, followed by an unexpected cancellation of Y7 in 2015 in Germany. As a result, by hosting Y7 Japan 2016, which also coincide with the tenth anniversary of the Y7, Japan will become the first country to host Y7 twice.

This means that not only we will have the task of preparing final communique, but we will also spend some time reflecting on our past accomplishment as we move on to the second rotation. We are sure to reaffirm our commitment to play a significant role in ensuring that G7 Leaders' Summit will always take into account the voice of youth. We will remain innovative, determined and united in this matter.

Finally, we would like to show our gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supporter of Y7 Japan 2016 and the crucial role they play in giving opportunities for young people everywhere to have their voice heard. Without them, Y7 Japan 2016 would not have taken place. For the full list of supporters, please click here.

Once again, welcome to the Y7 Japan 2016!

Yours Sincerely

Mizuki Nakamura

Chairperson of the Executive Committee
